functional decline, while for nfvPPA a combination of behavioural and functional status (p<.01) were the best predictors. Conclusions: Despite similar trajectories of functional impairment for svPPA and nfvPPA, significant differences in behavioural disturbance were identified. Differences in factors predicting functional decline after 12 months were also found. This study highlights the importance of understanding differences in factors affecting functional disability in different dementia subtypes, as this is likely to impact on the appropriate approach to care planning. As the needs of those affected by less common dementias may differ markedly from the needs of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease, a review of current assessment and practice in dementia may be necessary.
