symptoms) and we related these to existing, validated, structured questionnaires that explored caregivers and people with dementia needs and impact of care. Accounting for clinical phenotypes and computational complexity we reduced the complexity of the ensuing matrix using an iterative process to remove redundancies and optimise the use of the available information. Results:We identified key areas of care and organized teaching/ training modules within broad domains accordingly. Caregivers’ possible answers to the structured questionnaires were then used to first assign a score to the personal and practical needs within a matrix, and second to allocate an initial reference vector, which dictates the structure of the intervention across domains, and subsequently assigns specific modules into course slots. We used a set of pre-specified course outlines to reduce complexity and mathematical possibilities and further refined the algorithm validating it against common clinical phenotypes. Conclusions:Combining qualitative and quantitative methods we developed an Internet based algorithm to tailor Internet-based interventions for caregivers of people with dementia. Piloting and formal testing is warranted to demonstrate our algorithm efficiency and validity.
