95% CI 1.40-2.38). TIAwas also associated with increased risks of dementia (HR 1.9, 95% CI 1.0-3.7), with similar HR as stroke. Conclusions: We found an increased risk of dementia during 10 years around the index stroke, i.e. started five years before the stroke and diminished 5 years after the stroke. Studies suggested vascular pathology plays an important role for dementia, even many years before stroke.
