Background: The low demand for specialized medical assistance of people over 65 brings to the reduced detection of psychic pathology. In this research the prevalence of psychic disorder of gerontological contingent is studied, as well as the number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) in Armenia over the period of 2003-2008. Methods: Analysis of archive medical documentation of “Nork” clinic and polyclinic No 11 in Yerevan. Results: The results of the research proved that over the period of 2003-2008 only 62 people at the age of more than 65 with psychic disorder turned to the clinic “Nork”. AD was diagnosed in 3 cases (4,5%). Over the mentioned period 87 people turned to the polyclinic. AD was diagnosed only in one case. (1,2%). Besides this information, in 4 cases we observed patients with alzheimer type of dementia, the treatment of which was implemented in domestic conditions. In these cases, with the aim of diagnostics, the method of “mini mental status examination” was applied. Psychic disorder of these patients declared itself for the first time, the age of the patients was from 62 to 82. In all these cases the relatives rejected hospitalization in the psychiatric hospital. Disorder of all the patients was developing gradually, that is why the relatives had not given it great importance, considering that these changes in personality and psychic were age specific. During the period of our observation we noted that all the patients suffered from memory disorder. In general the patients were able to serve themselves, although we had to help them to take care of themselves. In evening hours they sometimes were becoming anxious, confusing the names of their relatives. Personality was changed according to atherosclerotic type, with understanding of their state, adequate emotional reactions. Conclusions: Summarizing, we can say, that the obtained data do not express the real picture about prevalence of AD in Armenia during the mentioned period of time, numerous literature data testify this, according to which 18 mln. People over 65 suffer from demention, and the frequency of ADmakes 8-10% of the total number of dementions.
