sera of MCI and AD patients in contrast to the controls, suggest an underlying inflammatory process linked to neurodegeneration. However, the pro-inflammatory response appears to partially subside in patients with AD, as they have lower the levels of circulating IL-8 (chemotractant for neutrophils) and MIP1b (secreted by cytotoxic CD8+ T lymphocytes) when compared to MCI. Overall, the present work presents evidence for the potential of IL-8 and MIP-1b as biological markers to distinguish MCI from early stage AD.
