2.9 points (p1⁄4 0.034) less on the ADAS-Cog compared to the lowest tertile and therewas no association with theMMSE. Plasma ceramides did not predict decline on any test. Conclusions: These results suggest that high levels of SMs, but not ceramides, dose-dependently predict slower one-year decline on cognitive measures. Total plasma dihydrosphingomyelin appears to be a better predictor for cognitive progression and could provide a new treatment target.
