50% vs. 50%). The levels of tau phosphorylation on p-S396-S404 displayed an approximately 2-fold increase in “low-dose”, and 4-fold increase in “high-dose” sevoflurane anesthetized mice. The level of tau phosphorylation on pT181 also increased. The total tau levels did not change. The results of the 2-D electrophoresis shows a shift of the total tau protein from the basic ph range, into the most acid ph range in high-dose anesthetized mice, comparedwith controlmice. Conclusions: In this study, repeated sevoflurane anesthetized mice have both persistent hippocampal tau hyperphosphorylation and impairment in spatial memory. These findings provide a link between anesthesia and POCD, especially by 65 yr older patients, who have physiologically asymptomatic neurofibrillary lesions in hippocampus.
