task performance that remained stable until four weeks after the training was completed. We observed that the learning slopes in the explicit knowledge situation showed limited improvement in comparison with the implicit performance circumstance. This maybe in favor ofour hypothesis that implicit learning capacities are better preserved than explicit memory in AD patients. Based on the pilot observations, the 3 LM-AD study aimed at exploring in depth how AD patients at different severity levels rely or use residual explicit knowledge ofthe tasks. The 3 LMAD study will address therange ofIADL relearning possibilities according to AD severity level. Hence, the clinical implications ofIADL enhancement and caregiver’s burden changes are explored in depth. From an implementation perspective, it can be argued that an error-reducing approach in combination with interactive modeling may be more attractive for patients than receiving straightforward instruction alone as inthe strictIty errorless condition, although the observed learning benefit fromthe pilot study did not differ between these two conditions. Using randomized design, the 3 LM-AD study explores the role ofteaching guidance according to severity stage and improvement range to develop a personality ecologically-based clinical approach for careers. Preliminary results ofthe 3LM-AD study will be presented at the leAD. The completion ofthe study is due by 2012.
