stract reasoning were used the dwarf-child difference and the interpretation of three different proverbs. Student t-test or Z-test (p< 0,05)were used.Results: In the control groupmini-mental score was 27 (Standard Deviation SD1⁄40,97) however the former alcoholic show a 15%(p1⁄40,006) reduction in the same test score 23 (SD1⁄41,4). In the CERADtest after 5min. the individuals saw the list of 10words then they were asked to remember the words, the former alcoholics showed an average recall of 3.2wordswith a minimum 0 (5people) and the maximum 7 (2people). In the test of nonverbal memory for figures after 5min. theywere an average recall of 4.2figureswith aminimumof 0 (3people) and the maximum 7 (2people). The former alcoholic group have a difficult in recognize specific features showed in the dwarf-child test (211%; p1⁄40,02 increase on the mistakes). Besides the former alcoholic show the same difficult in the three proverbs interpretation. Data expressed an increase 143%(p1⁄40,02), 183%(p1⁄40,01) and 239%(p1⁄40,005) in the wrong answers after consecutive tests. Conclusions: The chronic use of alcohol induced a significant reduction in verbal and non-verbal memories even with a long period of interruption consume these changes are permanent. In addition there is a clear difficulty in the proverb interpretation tests and abstract associations in former alcoholics.
