data about people with dementia and their caregivers, users of the Home Care Program. Results: The team has served almost 540 families in urban and rural areas of Athens, since October 2008, with repeated visits to each house depending on the size and the type of problem. Conclusions: The members of the patients’ family declare that there is an urgent need for services and institutions which meet the increasing demands of both patients and caregivers especially at the advanced stages of the disease. We have to raise awareness of the full social, health and economic impact to make dementia a public healthcare priority.
