depressed patients without these risk factors. The fact that depression patients with cardiovascular risk factors had a similar cognitive profile as mild dementia patients is supportive of the notion that vasculopathy may mediate the cognitive problems seen. Although causality cannot be established with a cross-sectional study, these results are suggestive, and prospective randomized studies should be done.
