participated of this study. The individuals went from being illiterate to having 17 years of schooling. The MAC-Q test ,which evaluates the self perception of memory complaints and the MEEM, that evaluates orientation, language, memory, math and motor coordination and the verbal fluency test were used. For the statistical analysis the frequency, average and standard deviation measures were used. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to verify the association between the two scales. Results: 69,6% of the individuals were female, and the average schooling was 4 years. A worse performance in the MAC-Q, MEEM and Verbal Fluency test was observed among the women. When the total results of MEEM and MAC-Q tests were compared, a negative correlation, from weak to moderate (r1⁄4 -0338) was found, stating that the higher the scoring on the MAC-Q the lower the scoring on the MEEM(p 0,001). Conclusions: The higher the scoring on the MAC-Q the lower the scoring on the MEEM.
