with strudy plastic plates. However, it may be amazing to know that an individual of an African descent especially a male, may not consume the meal because it is served in a plastic plate! No matter the kinds of intervention that may be used in the behavior management theory, this individuals may starve to death for a very obvious but overlooked reason that is solely culturally motivated. In Africa, adult males are usually serve with a metal or glass plate. This is indicative of respect and honour to the elderly. Therefore, when an African dementia patient in a typically long term setting in the United States, is labeled as a “difficult resident,” such label becomes unjustified. Conclusions: The management of the symptoms of dementia is a very challenging task. However, the behavioral symptoms of dementia should not be a laborious task if the application of the individuals culture and values are incorporated into the plan of care for that individual.
