finding it hard to make decisions for their relative and had difficulty talking with their other family members about their relative’s illness. Conclusions: These results support that advanced dementia patients and their family members have palliative care needs within the nursing home setting. Family members of advanced dementia patients identified a number of needs that they felt would be helpful in providing the best care for their relative. All of the needs identified match with services provided by programs such as hospice or can be provided by programs offered in house by a nursing home. Additional research on how the Hospice Medicare Benefit could be modified to best suit this population is necessary.
