This article reviews prior examples of successful prevention interventions and reviews whether comparable data are available to support a prevention campaign targeting later life cognitive decline and dementia. The evidence that risk factors for vascular disease—hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus—increase the incidence of dementia supports a prevention campaign now.
