creased severity in depression was highly correlated with increased severity of each remaining symptom, with the exception of elation. Increased agitation was likewise significantly associated with increased severity of each of the other symptoms, except for hallucinations and elation. Conclusions: These findings underscore the increasing severity of neuropsychiatric symptoms, and their correlations over time. Treatment implications involve targeting symptom clusters rather than individual symptoms. Future work will examine the influence of neuropsychiatric symptoms on cognitive and functional trajectories in dementia as well as risk factors for their occurrence.
