of the ADAM protease family and the MT-MMP (membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase) family. Conclusions: Regulation of Alc cleavage was not conserved across the various members of the family proteins, suggesting that multiple “Alc secretases” may participate in Alc processing. However, like APP C-terminal fragments (CTFs), the Alc CTFs that remain cell-associated following ectodomain shedding rapidly underwent -secretase-type cleavage. The characterization of the processing of Alc is important for investigating the possiblility that aberrant processing of Alc family members may play a role in AD.
