recorded with 21 scalp electrodes, in which local impairment of synapticneuronal function is estimated through reduction of the smoothness. Since a positive efficacy of art therapy (AT) against dementia has already been confirmed, the effect of RT was compared with AT. Patients played with Paro in 20min and then received 2-hour AT. Throughout this process EEG signals were recorded three times each for 5 min in rest state with closed eyes: before and after RT and after AT. DIMENSION analysis categorizes subject’s state into the normal, sub-normal and impaired regions. Conclusions: (i) RT in 20 minutes brought eight patients from the impaired region into the sub-normal or normal region; the following AT showed no further improvement; (ii) four patients originally in the impaired region showed no effect in RT but the following AT resulted in a little improvement; (iii) a patient was brought up half way and AT did it into the normal region. Conclusively RT can practically be an alternate to AT. Optimization of the robot design is expected.
