(formal and informal) and the patient. The limitations of the ones who live with Alzheimer’s patients concerning how to understand and manage them lead to health disorders and the quality of life of both. According to this view we propose the project: ”Itinerant workshop: Demystifying the word Alzheimer”. Objective: To develop an educational and empowerment program to community people from the South of Brazil. Methods: 12 cities will be assisted sequentially (capital and the other chosen cities in the state ), covering a total of 600 participants. The educational activities will be interactive, not only informative. The approach will first offer the opportunity of a cognitive construction, being emphasized the need of the capacity of agility, flexibility and creativity. This work had it’s basis a previous study performed with 50 caregivers in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul in 2004 and, with such empowerment, the understanding and managing with the Alzheimer’s patients has been facilitated in concern to their daily living activities. Conclusion: In developing countries, where both longevity and Alzheimer disease have been increasing, it is imperative in Brazilian Society, the multiplication of models of education and empowerment already consolidated in developped countries . Thus, the idea that the caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients, no matter the stage where he is, needs to be approached in a perspective construction of knowledge, showing a concern with the ethics compromised with the rights and the human dignity. We hope this iniative has potential to broaden the study in the whole country.
