V0 neurons are all commissural neurons. Like V2 neurons, they also composed of both excitatory and inhibitory neurons. Excitatory neurons can be further subdivided into three types: V0-eAs, V0-eBs and V0-eDs. Our time-lapse imaging indicated that, unlike V2 neurons, excitatory and inhibitory neurons are generated by different progenitors. Progenitors for V0 excitatory neurons can be subdivided into two: those that produce V0-eAs and those that produce V0-eBs and V0-eDs. Birthdate analysis indicated that generation of multiple types of V0 excitatory neurons obeys the following temporal order: V0-eAs first, V0-eBs in the middle and V0-eDs in the last phase. Together, our results suggest that heterogeneities among p0 progenitors and the temporal regulation of cell differentiation contribute to the generation of neuronal diversities in V0 neurons.
