Our results suggest that the inhibition of Na+, K+-ATPase as well as the impairment on the glutamate uptake promoted by hyperhomocysteinemia in the hippocampus of young rats, is probably mediated by oxidative stress, since the treatment with antioxidant vitamin C prevented such effects. These findings may be, at least in part, responsible by the mechanisms related to the brain damage observed in hyperhomocysteinemic patients. Supported by CNPq (Brazil).
