development, structure and consequently function of the primate neocortex. Methods: In vivo and ex vivo analysis of the germinal zones of the primate cortex, combining immunohistochemistry, 2-photon time-lapse videorecording, confocal and electron microscopy analysis. Results: We report novel features concerning cell-cycle regulation, cellular diversity, mode of division and structural properties of the primate OSVZ progenitors. Conclusions: The precursor pool of the primate OSVZ is characterized by an increased diversity compared to the rodent SVZ, as well as increased self-renewing proliferative abilities.
