length of cell processes. Moreover, we show that expression of BFABP in astrocytoma tumor biopsies is associated with sites of tumor infiltration and recurrence Mita et al. (2007). We propose that: (i) the ability of MG cells to migrate long distances from the primary tumor mass is due to the inherently migratory properties of their cell-of-origin, and (ii) B-FABP expression enhances the migratory ability of malignant glioma cells. The preferred ligand of B-FABP is docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a long chain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid; therefore, we hypothesize that B-FABP plays a critical role in cellmigration by altering the fatty acid composition of MG cells. Thus, targeting BFABP-expressing cells in MGmay make a significant impact on the treatment of these tumors.
