PCs to the phenotype observed in the cerebral cortex of TLX / animals, we generated mice with a conditional mutation of TLX in cortical (Emx1-Cre) or striatal (Six3-Cre) PCs. Both of these conditional knock-out animals show abnormalities in the adult cortex, which indicates that TLX has an important role in both PC populations. Here we focus on the role of TLX in dorsal (Emx1expressing) PCs. Emx1-cre/+ TLX flox/ animals show similar cortical abnormalities to TLX / animals both during development and in the adult. Interestingly, adult Emx1-cre/+ TLX flox/ animals exhibit onlya subset of thebehavioral abnormalities characterized in TLX / animals, with the primary phenotype being a reduction in anxiety. These animals provide important insight into the role of specificPCpopulationsandneurogenesis indefiningadultbehaviors.
