ResumenEl autor destaca el relevante y actual papel de la enseñanza y la investigación de las Ciencias Sociales en la UNAM. Reflexiona sobre la importancia de impulsar su renovación institucional. En su opinión, diversos diagnósticos demuestran que la Universidad está inmersa en un proceso de cambios y una de sus principales fortalezas es el valor de la responsabilidad social como universidad pública en Latinoamérica. Señala algunos de los compromisos y retos que enfrentan tanto la institución para cumplir su misión, como los científicos sociales para responder a las exigencias de la sociedad del conocimiento.AbstractThe author highlights the relevant and current role of teaching and research of Social Sciences at UNAM and reflects on the importance of promoting its institutional renewal. In his view, various diagnoses show that the University is undergoing a process of change and one of its main strengths is the value of social responsibility as a public university in Latin America. He also points out some of the commitments and challenges facing both the institution to fulfill its mission and social scientists to meet the demands of the knowledge society
