LAPAROSCOPIC‐ASSISTED colon surgery is a safe alternative to conventional open colectomy. Using the laparoscopic approach, the surgeon uses tools through port sites to mobilize the section of colon to be removed, avoiding a large laparotomy incision. Usually, two to three 5‐mm port sites and one 10‐mm or 12‐mm port site are created. ALTHOUGH THIS PROCEDURE often requires a small incision to remove the diseased portion of the colon, the incision is much smaller, causing less postoperative pain and shortening the hospital stay.
