The incidence of umbilical cord entanglement from this study is 20.4%. The mean Apgar score was lower and the mean duration of labor longer in the tightly cord‐entangled (TCE) infants compared to the loosely cord‐entangled (LCE) group. However, no difference occurred in birthweight and placental weight between the two groups. Perinatal mortality was higher (42.9/1000) compared to the overall study group (20.4/1000). Cord entanglement had no relationship to parity but was more prevalent in male babies than in females.
