Ultrasonic findings in seven cases of suspected abruptio placentae are presented. The absolute sonolucency of the retroplacental space seems to signify a fresh bleeding or hematoma. The differential diagnostic problems between the non‐pathologic retroplacental sonolucencies, those resulting from an organizing hematoma, and fresh bleeding are discussed.
