Three restriction endonucleases, Bbi I, Bbi II and Bbi III, have been isolated from Bifidobacterium bifidum . The recognition and cleavage specificity of Bbi II was determined to be 5'‐GR↓CGYC‐3', identical to that of Acy I isolated from a cyanobacterium Anabaena cylindrica. The other two enzymes, Bbi I and Bbi III, were found to be isoschizomers of Pst I and Xho I, respectively.
