The amino acid sequence of Thermoplasma acidophilum was determined by various conventional techniques. It is composed of 142 amino acid residues including 9 cysteines. One of the two cysteine clusters shows exactly the same cysteine distribution as clostridial ferredoxins, but the other shows a unique distribution. Comparison of various archaebacterial ferredoxins suggests multiple origins.
