We have reported an increased fluorescence polarization of 1,6‐diphenyl‐1,3,5‐hexatriene in the phorbol myristate acetate‐stimulated plasma membrane of human neutrophils [FEBS Lett. (1982) 144, 199–203]. We now present evidence that both the increased fluorescence polarization and the production of super‐oxide radicals by human neutrophils require calcium, calmodulin and phospholipase activity.
