The contents of sterol derivatives (sterols + esters, glycosides and acylated glycosides) have been determined using thin layer chromatography in leaves and bulky and organs from carrots ( Daucus carota L.) potato ( Solanum tuberosum L.), onion ( Allium cepa L.) two varieties of radish ( Raphanus sativus L.) and Gentiana purpurea L. plants. Ether‐soluble lipids of leaves contain 2.8–5.2%, those of storage tissue 3.1–8.9% sterol derivatives. The fractionation of lettuce ( Lactuca sativa L., Burpee's Ruby Red) leaf homogenates indicates steryl glycosides to be accumulated in a microsomal fraction.
