Bovine insulin can be split into several fractions by gel filtration on Sephadex G50. These are, in order of decreasing molecular weight, a new unidentified substance, proinsulin, and a large fraction containing several substances. Ultracentrifugal examination of the proinsulin in acetic acid solution (pH 2.3) gave a molecular weight of 9300 and evidence of an association‐dissociation equilibrium.
