and Summary The cost of producing fatty acids from agricultural products and the cost of producing them from petroleum and natural gas both depend heavily on the cost and availability of energy. The costs of the agrichemical acids and of the petrochemical acids will probably increase at the same rate in the future. Therefore, the choice of which one to use will depend at least as much on chemical composition and performance as on price.
