The PCX, a personal computer ex-pander kit, has been announced by NCR Industrial Systems. The PCX kit consists of a terminal communications card, a software driver, a demonstration program , and an NCR 2840 data collection terminal. The terminal includes a bar code wand, an alphanumeric keyboard, a 16-character display, and an optical badge reader. The communications card features an optically isolated RS-422 port, an RS-232 port, and a timer. With superior common mode noise rejection and true ground isolation between the PC and the terminal network, the RS-422 driver can support as many as 32 devices at distances of up to 4000 feet. Communication rate is 9600 bps. The RS-232 port has selectable character length, parity bits, stop bits, and communication rates from 1200 to 9600 bps. The board can operate in a polled mode or with switch-selectable interrupts.
