SummaryThe preparation of and analytical data on three specimens of methyl arachidonate are described; these data include determinations of thiocyanogen number. By a standard procedure polybromide yields are reported on five specimens of methyl arachidonate over a wide range of amounts of arachidonate brominated. The empirical nature of the polybromide yield is demonstrated. It is proposed to estimate methyl arachidonate in methyl ester mixtures by the interpolation from a standard curve which is drawn from bromide‐arachidonate data over a wide range of values. The use of the proposed method along with the spectroscopic procedure is discussed.
