Abstract Synthetic alcohol, natural alcohol and linear alkylbenzene (LAB) surfactant feedstocks will all be needed to meet market requirements in the coming decade. Of the synthetic alcohol processes, the Alfol® alcohol process, due to its strong byproduct credit, will be the most cost efficient. Moreover, LAB and natural alcohols will have the lowest production costs of all surfactant intermediates throughout the decade.
