Unautoclaved pecan (Carya illinoensis [Wangenh.] K. Koch) meal from selected trees, 10 each with high or low nut yields, were inoculated with a spore suspension of Aspergillus parasiticus. Significantly greater concentrations of aflatoxins (B 2 + B 2 + G 1 + G 2 ) occurred in substrates from high‐yielding trees. The data suggest physiological differences associated with yield resulted in tolerance to accumulation of aflatoxins.
