A survey of nickel, platinum and palladium catalysts prepared on silicas, aluminas and mo‐lecular sieves indicated that the nature of such supports contributed importantly to selective hydrogenation of soybean oil. Nickel‐molecular sieve catalysts provided both high hydrogenation selectivity and low trans‐ isomer formation. Some kind of spatial hindrance may be postulated in explanation of the results.
