Summary Improved apparatus and techniques for the measurement of olefinic unsaturation by quantitative hydrogenation are described. These involve use of Mason's sample‐introducing device, of n ‐alkyl esters of mono‐basic fatty acids as solvents, and of palladium‐carbon catalysts, thereby speeding up the determination, improving their precision, and extending their utility.
