Summary Isano oil is now commercially available. Its major constituent fatty acids, isanic and isanolic acid, are unusual in their reactivity because of a conjugated acetylenic bond system in the middle of an 18‐carbon chain. When heated sufficiently, the oil reacts exothermically with violence. This property has useful application in fire‐retardant paints. Other uses and chemical reactions are given.
