A gas chromatographic method is described for analyzing commercial polymerized fatty acids. The method determines unpolymerized acid, dimerized acid, and trimerized acid. Involved is an esterification to the methyl esters, followed by programed temperature gas liquid chromatography. Several years experience with this analysis has demonstrated its utility as a tool for quality control and research.
