Linoleic acid of 97% purity can be made from safflower oil by liquid‐liquid extraction at a 舠cost to make舡 of about 21 cents a 1b. Calculations for the cost estimate were based on pilot‐plant investigations. Fixed capital investment for a plant with an annual capacity of 20 million 1b has been estimated at approximately $1,800,000. Such a plant could be converted readily to the production of a variety of other fatty acids.
