Abstract Substituted amidostearic acids were prepared from petroselinic acid by reaction, in the presence of sulfuric acid, with hydrogen cyanide, acetonitrile, propionitrile, acrylonitrile and benzonitrile. The products were crystalline solids. Attempts to obtain monoamides containing a nitrile group by the use of dinitriles were unsuccessful.
