Reaction of methyl trans ‐2,3‐epoxyoctadecanoate (I) with phenyl isocyanate in dimethylformamide (DMF) in the presence of anhydrous AlCl 3 as catalyst has yielded 3‐phenyl‐4‐pentadecylmethyleneoxazolid‐2,5‐dione (II) and 4(5)‐carbomethoxy‐5 (4)‐pentadecyl‐3‐phenyl‐ cis ‐2‐oxazolidone (III). The products have been characterized with the help of spectral data and microanalyses.
