SummaryThe reaction of N‐bromosuccinimide with methyl esters of soybean fat acids and with methyl linoleate has been investigated, and the influence of changes in the conditions of reaction has been studied. The reaction of brominated methyl esters of soybean fat acids with sodium methoxide produced both methoxylated products and a dimer‐like substance. The reaction of brominated methyl esters of soybean fat acids with sodium cyanide and cuprous cyanide did not result in significant replacement of bromine with the cyano group.
