Octek has announced the availability of the 2210/VM vision processor for Digital Equipment Corporation's VAX-I I systems running under VMS. The product allows real-time machine vision and image processing applications to be developed on VAX computers. The 2210/VM features real-time video digitizing, video frame storage, DMA access to image memory, dual camera inputs that accept RS-170, monochrome and RGB color displays, nondestructive text and cursor output , and gray-scale and binary image analysis. A programmable microprocessor controls all of the 2210/VM functions. Standard For-tran drivers facilitate programming. VAX users can license Octek's machine vision module for industrial control and inspection applications. The 2210/VM operates through the standard Unibus interface, which uses micro-coded state controllers. The single-quantity price is $7600. The Mapper 10 system from Sperry Corporation is a dedicated solutions-oriented processor with fourth-generation, interactive software. Designed for executives, middle managers, and administrative personnel, the system is a management decision support tool that allows the organization, manipulation, and extraction of information needed for planning and controlling business operations. Built around an integrated database arranged like a traditional filing cabinet with drawers of electronic data files, the Mapper 10 system includes a CPU with 524K to 2096K words of memory, two to six fixed-disk drives with a total storage capacity of 460M bytes, one or two streaming tapes, one or two printers, and a console. The English-command system offers color graphics, word processing, electronic mail, and related automated office functions, as well as searches, sorts, merges, and arithmetic computations that support the "what-if" process. The system also offers Sperry's Sufics package , a financial planning and support software system that features risk and sensitivity analysis, hierarchical consolidation, statistics, forecasting, goal seeking, and financial graphics capabilities. A general-purpose Instruction Processor executes all programs and maintains system security. The purchase price of the Mapper 10 system is under $250,000. It is expected to be available for customer delivery in April 1984.
