The marine sponge Chondrilla nucula contains 34% 30∶3Δ5,9,23 in its total fatty acids. This nonmethylene‐interrupted polyunsaturated acid, unknown in other living organisms, occurs mainly as an ester in phosphatidylethanolamine.
