Two new fatty acid metabolites, 5(Z),7(E),9(E),14(Z),17(Z)‐icosapentaenoic acid and 5(E),7(E),9(E),14(Z),17(Z)‐icosapentaenoic acid, have been isolated from the temperate red marine alga, Ptilota filicina (Ceramiales, Rhodophyta). The structures of these new compounds, isolated as their methyl ester derivatives, have been deduced from detailed 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13 C NMR and 2D‐NMR analyses as well as comparisons to known compounds.
