Abstract The formation of ionic Co(II)‐bis‐salicylalaethylenedi‐imine complexes of peroxy radicals of methyl esters of fatty acids was followed by means of UV spectra. Typical compounds were isolated and purified, and analyzed for Co content. IR spectra were determined. The mechanism of the autoxidation of fatty acid methyl esters in the presence of “Salcomine” (Co[II]‐bissalicylalethylene‐di‐imine) has been outlined, and its effect is explained as an oxidative addition reaction, resulting from coordinative unsaturation.
